February topic: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
Discovered in 1997, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch spans waters from the West Coast of North America to Japan. Our over reliance on plastic along with our willingness to throw things away has caused it. Because it is so far from any country’s coastline, no nation will take responsibility or provide the funding to clean it up. The least we can do is stop adding to it, starting now. Could we actually clean it up?
